The WYS aims to encourage the safe enjoyment of yachting by all its members. It works to bring together individuals and families interested in sailing so that they can enjoy camaraderie and mutual support both on and off the water. Newcomers to the sport can be assured of help and encouragement from other members. 

MAJOR ACTIVITIES

 The club’s on-water activities are centered on cruising in company. There are cruises organized in local waters and further afield. Often, members get together informally for day outings or holiday cruises and great friendships are forged. The squadron also promotes selected races run by other clubs. These events, along with two passage races organized by the club, form a racing series for those who enjoy a little friendly competition. There are also regular off-water social events such as barbecues and pot-luck dinners, and in winter car rallies and 10 pin bowling evenings. Having fun together is always the key ingredient. 

BOATS

 There are boats of many different designs in the squadron. It is very likely that there are other members with a boat like yours. We also welcome members who have an interest in sailing but no boat. If you like talking boats and sailing, sharing your boating experiences and learning from those of others, then you will fit right in at club gatherings. 

STRUCTURE

 All members are encouraged to have a say in the running of the club. A committee elected each year at an AGM, works to turn the ideas of members into organized events, under the leadership of the club commodore. Any member is welcome to attend committee meetings, which are held each month. The backbone of the squadron is “The Mainsheet”, the monthly newsletter to members. This keeps everyone in touch with news, views, member’s misdemeanors and coming events.
